One note before I get to the reviews of the best gps dog collars. If you have a small dog then you should not be thinking about this as an option. Most manufactures suggest that your dog not weigh much less than 40 pounds. So all you dog owners that wanted a furry rate but bought a Paris Hilton dog are out of luck when it comes to dog collar with gps.
Like I said the are five well known manufactures of these dog gps system. Zoombak produces one of the most well-known and popular gps dog collars. The Zoombak Advanced GPS dog locator is one of the more basic models with a lower cost upfront. With the Zoombak collar you call or text the company when your dog has gone missing and the company will get back to you almost instantly giving you detailed information about your dog’s location. With Zoombak you have the extra benefit of being able to log into www.zoombak.com and track your dog instantly. Another option is if you have a pda or smart phone and are able to access the site via your phone.
Like I said, the Zoombak gps collar is one of the lower cost options out there. At the time this article was written the Zoombak advanced gps dog locator costs just under $200.00 dollars. Don’t forget that there is a monthly charge for this particular gps dog finder. Right now they are charging $15 dollars a month for the service.
Let’s take a look at some of the features. One really cool feature that I find myself using all the time is the ability to have safety zone. The Zoombak Advanced gps dog collar allows up to 10 safety zones. So if you take your dog to the same places on a consistent basis then you don’t have to be bothered by an alarm each and every time. I personally have a safety zone set for the park that I run in and doggy daycare. Another feature is that safety zones are customizable by time so the park maybe safe during the day but will sound an alarm at night.
One of my drawbacks of this device is that it requires you to be rather tech savvy. I know a lot of my friends don’t even know how to text message. This gps dog collar relies a lot on text messaging. For instance, you are notified via text when your dog enters or exits a safety zone. If you have an active dog than this can get pretty annoying. Another thing to keep in mind is that The Zoombac advanced gps collar uses Tmobile for wireless service. It’s not a secret that T-mobile is not known for it’s terrific cell coverage. I also am not impressed with the battery like of the advanced gps dog locator. The lack of battery power is offset some what by it’s ability to warn you via text when the gps collar is low on battery.
GPS dog collars have become very popular so I have decided to write another in-depth article on these high tech dog collars. I have done some good research on the latest gps collars and will reveal my findings to you in this article. I personally have only experience with one brand but have been very happy with it so far. I am thinking of upgrading to one of the more advanced units here soon. There seems to be a lot of people out there looking for quality content about dog gps collars. From the other sites I’ve seen out there, quantity and quality are defiantly lacking.
If you have read other articles on my site you should know the basics by now. If you read these articles and are still left with questions then hopefully this post will answer those questions. If you’re still reading than it’s likely that you have lost your dog before and really want a working solution to keeping knowing where your dog is at all times. Well, you are in luck because there are now five manufactures of dog gps collars. Like I said if you have read the other articles here then you now that the basic idea of pet tracking collars is that the dog wears a transmitter and when your pet leaves the area that you have set out to be safe then an alarm is triggered.
A Dog gps collar can be basically broken down into two different categories. These categories are made up by the way you are notified if your beloved pet leaves the safe area. One category is made up of the cheaper models with a lower upfront cost but you must remember that you will be tied to a monthly service charge. The second group is the more expensive gps collars. These advanced gps dog collars cost more at the beginning but then do not have a monthly fee. The cool thing about these gps tracking systems is that there is a hand held device that shows real time moving status of your dog.
The cheap gps dog collars do not give you such feedback. Instead the company alerts you. This is often in the form a text message on your cell phone or phone call. You must talk with the company to help track down your dog and this is where the montly fee comes into play. These affordable gps dog collar options do give you the ability to log into a website to track your dog in real time. Another feature that I think is really cool is that you can set an option to be contacted when the battery is low on your dogs gps dog training collar.
I’ve run out of time for now but I still plan on finishing the dog gps collar reviews from the other major players. Please stay tuned for more on dog gps.

GPS technology is integrated into many parts of our lives today, from cell phones to navigation. We don’t even give it a second thought anymore, yet our lives are the better for it every day. Now it is possible to use this same technology we find so ordinary in a new way, to help us protect one of the most important things in our lives: our pets.
I went through 4 (yes, FOUR) Zoombak dog collars and never did get one to work as the batteries didn’t hold a charge for longer than 1/1/2 days. The collar was charged more than it was on my dog. I had excellent satellite coverage, so that was not the problem. Could not recommend this to anyone.
